Asheville is Full of Life

Asheville has become known in recent years as one of the Southeast's most energetic and artistic cities. In spite of making almost every "best places" list imaginable, Asheville has maintained it's small town charm.

Asheville and the surrounding area attract thousands of potential new residents each year; people are moving here because the area offers a more laid back lifestyle and a better quality of life than other southeastern cities.

Surrounded by the majesty and charm of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this vibrant city appeals to those seeking the intimacy and enchantment of a small city and the economic power of a larger city.

Asheville is a city rich in history and is well known from coast to coast; attracting new residents and visitors with its diveristy and quality of life.  Asheville was once known as the "Paris of the South" and today it's often referred to as the "San Franciso of the South"  with it's eclectic character it's a perfect blend of urban style and southern charm.

Western North Carolina is a beautiful paradise with pristine national forests that boasts some of the world's best kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities.  Because the climate is so favorable Asheville residents can often enjoy being outdoors most of the year.

Surrounding Asheville is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which winds through 470 miles of scenic mountains and meadows.  The parkway connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park here in North Carolina.  All along the parkway there are recreation areas that have visitor centers, camp grounds, picnic areas and trails.  Located here in Asheville off the parkway is the Folk Arts Center with many exhibits and a gift shop.  The Folk Arts Center is also the headquarters of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild.  Just north of Asheville on the parkway is Mount Mitchell which is 6,680 feet above sea level.

Asheville is home to the Biltmore Estate, a sprawling 250-room French Renaissance Chateau that was built in the 1880's by George W. Vanderbilt.  Housed on 8,000 acres, this estate is the largest privatley owned home in the U.S..  The estate features gardens, a winery, a historic horse barn, several restaurants and an inn.

Asheville is Cool and Artsy

Downtown Asheville is a rare place with its rich architectural legacy as seen in many of it's buildings.  Asheville boasts more Art Deco architecture than any southeastern city other than Miami Beach.

The Asheville arts scene is alive and buzzing featuring hundreds of artists, street musicians, performing arts venues, hip arts neighborhoods, street festivals and more. Locals and visitors alike converge making a thriving downtown.  There is always something happening downtown; listen to live music at a local club; visit the 30 plus galleries; shop unique boutiques and of course don't forget all the great restuarants to try.

Asheville is an easily walkable downtown with so much to see and do.  Enjoy dining at one of the many outdoor sidewalk cafes.

Everyone agrees that Asheville is a great place to call home.

Four Seasons of Asheville

Asheville and Western North Carolina have 4 distinct seasons, each providing an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the natural environment.

Spring brings new life to the mountains as everything comes alive with blooms and greenery.

Summer brings longer days and warmer temperatures.  Cool summer nights are perfect for a quiet evening on the porch or a dinner downtown at one of the many outdoor cafes.  The average July high temperature is 82.2 degrees.

When Fall arrives the mountains become ablaze with red, amber and golden leaves on the trees.  The views are incredible from any direction.  The Western North Carolina mountains get the longest fall color season because of the elevation here.  You can still see the beautifull leaves throughout November.

Winter is usually mild with a dusting of snow occassionally in the mountains. The average low temperature in January is 24 degrees which means you can still go outside and have fun.
